Debra Keppel's art is characterized by brilliance of color and precision of line. She asked to come to NIAD Art Center in 2001 in order to learn more about art and start painting on her own. Her work reflects a sense of strong concentration and the powers of observation, which Debra previously developed in years of schooling at various schools in and near Pinole, her home. She has been diagnosed with mild cerebral palsy and developmental delay, but her artwork suggests an acute intelligence accompanied by joyousness and a sense of humor. It is as if her own sunny, outgoing personality is reflected in the vivid, happy colors and strong lines of her work.

Although she has been at NIAD for a relatively short time, she has had many pieces exhibited in NIAD Art Center shows in the Florence Ludins-Katz gallery.
