| Angela Rogers uses a wheelchair and has the free
use of one arm. She paints, draws, cuts linoleum prints and sculpts with
papier-mâché and clay. Her painting has developed from whimsical, childlike
depictions of human figures and faces to vivid abstractions composed of swirls
and waves of colors that seem at play with each other. In addition, Rogers has
fashioned clay into masks, vases, dishes and functioning teapots that have
attracted collectors.
Rogers was born in 1969 with cerebral palsy. She graduated from special
education courses in high school and attended classes at Contra Costa Community
College. She came to NIAD in 1991 at age 22 because she wanted to make art.
Rogers art has been exhibited in the Artists Beyond Disabilities Exhibition,
Pasadena, CA; the Ohloe College Art Gallery, Fremont, CA; the Richmond Department
of Rehabilitation, the ProArts Open Studio, Oakland, CA; and the California
Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco. She lives in a board-and-care home and
enjoys music and swimming.
