Timothy Buckwalter has composed a very nice review of NIAD's current exhibit Call & Response, on the Arts & Culture portion of the KQED website. Quote:

"You know what call and response is, right?

If you've ever been to church or attended a rally, you do. Or if you've listened to music -- like James Brown's "Soul Power" -- you know what I'm talking about.

Yep, its when one person poses a question or makes a statement and the like-minded group offers a reply."

The full review can be found here.

In April, NIAD was fortunate to host artist Maria Bueno from Malaga, Spain, who led NIAD artists in a project to complete a mural for the Richmond Police Activities League’s new gymnasium. The mural was conceived as a gift to the children of Richmond and embodies the theme of unity. Eighteen NIAD artists participated in the project with Bueno, who helped the artists conceptualize and execute the mural composed of magical animals. It was a unique opportunity for NIAD artists who enjoyed the exchange of ideas and enthusiasm generated by the project.

The slide show below contains a timeline of photographs illustrating the project from its infancy to installation. If you would like to see the mural in person you can visit the Richmond Police Activities League at the corner of MacDonald Ave and 22nd street in Richmond, CA. Click here for a map.
